weekend update - sleepover edition

while annie was busy being mad for plaid, jack was out and about ... our big boy went off for a sleepover at nana and grandad's on saturday night.

and while saturday evening brought pancakes for dinner and a viewing of "cars" -- as only a trip to the grandparents can -- sunday brought adventure on the high seas.

or, at least on the low lake.

jack, nana and grandad set out in a rowboat for a tour around lake needwood

and although they questioned whether jack would be able to row, he quickly set them straight ...

wonder if the nursery school has a crew team?? it's never too early to start ergs ...

and to slake their hunger after rowing, they had what you would expect ...

BROWNIES!

jack not only helped crack the eggs and mix the batter, he also taste-tested it and tested its effects as a hair product.

needless to say, bath time was interesting ...

jack had a great time during his sleep over ... and nana and grandad now need a nap!

annie with the laughing face

annie has quite a laugh -- it's infectious and, in our humble opinion, very cute.

and no one can make her laugh quite like her brother can:

for now it's her brother. but, one day, hopefully, it will be her husband who will make her laugh like no one else can ... sort of like her dad has been making her mom laugh for 9 great years of marriage.

the summer of cuteness begins anew

although the solstice has not officially arrived, the temperatures (and humidity) here have it already feeling like summer.

and, fittingly, we begin anew ... the summer of cuteness. and this year brings not only cute outfits, but cute accessories too!

starting off ... what could be cuter than pink flamingos?

the end of 5x3

while we have much to update you on -- with a visit by grandma and grandpa and jack's fourth birthday, replete with a rockin' firehouse party, today we focus on the last day of school.

jack has spent a great year progressing since he first walked into mrs. stover's class 9 months ago. he's become such a big boy, we can hardly believe it.

you can click below to enlarge the images and read mrs. stover's full assessment of jack's progress. the basics though are that he's mastered the elements of physical growth, health and self care, cognitive growth and emotional and social growth (and then some!). he still has some work to do on his small motor, but he is progressing.

but the truly interesting part are his teacher's additional comments:

Where do I begin on Jack! He is our class engine; our energy, our imagination, our conscience, and our voice. jack has had a great year in all forms of growth. I have been working with him on his fine motor skills. They will come in time when his body is ready; but he seems to enjoy trying. Jack told me the other day that we were alike because our names start with "J." Then he said, "But, Mrs. Stover, you don't make your j's right because you forget the top part!" And you know what -- he's right! Jack will do very well in the 5x4 class next year.

now, look out summer, 'cause here jack comes!
